During my time with this watch I took it with me on a drive around the New York and New Jersey area in a red 1966 Ford Mustang. There was something very fitting about pairing a 1960s-era chronograph designed to time automobiles with a car of the same era. The only difference here was that the engine inside the Mustang was original (and it sounded original trust me) while the movement inside the Zenith was the most current iteration of the classic caliber 400 from '69.

I've always been a big Zeitwerk fan. Back before I was writing about watches and obsessing over watches full time in my college internship days I was working for a company in London and remember seeing the original Zeitwerk on a client's wrist in a meeting. It blew me away. I had no idea what I was looking at but I knew it had to be something special. I started asking questions that the owner was only too happy to answer and my love of Lange was in full flight.

In the meantime work on the Series 2 is well underway. While the Series 1 was always planned as a classic dress watch the Series 2 will be an integrated-bracelet sports watch from Fleming designed in collaboration with Emmanuel Gueit. For those who can't place the name Gueit was the genius behind the (at the time controversial) Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore design so it seems the plans are in good hands.
